Project Runnymede: From Concept to Cabinet

To show you exactly what our design process delivers, here's a real example from one of our recent interior design projects.
The Brief
A ground floor living space required a striking focal point — a bespoke cabinet built into the existing layout, designed to anchor the room while providing practical storage.
The Scaled Drawing
Every AKM Bespoke project begins with precise, scaled drawings. This floor plan shows the exact positioning of the bespoke cabinet within the room, along with structural details such as the coffered ceiling detail and integrated LED strip lighting — ensuring the design fits perfectly before a single cut is made.
The Design Concept

Alongside the technical drawings, we develop a full design concept board — bringing together the materials, finishes, and furnishings that will shape the final look.
For this project, the concept centred around a warm, richly patterned wallpaper as a backdrop for the cabinet, paired with antique gold hardware, sculptural brass lighting, and a deep blood-orange velvet accent chair. Every element — from the cabinet knobs to the paint finish — was selected to work together as one cohesive scheme.
From Board to Build
This is where our two worlds meet. The concept board defines the atmosphere and finishes; the scaled drawing ensures it's built to fit precisely. Because we handle both design and joinery in-house, nothing gets lost between the vision and the finished piece.
